  4. Getting Good Grades Mental Benefits • Be More Alert • Become Knowledgeable About Sports • Reduce Stress • Learn How to Compete in Healthy Way • Feel Good About Yourself

  5. Social Benefits • Sportsmanship • Cooperation and Teamwork • Make Friends • Have Fun! Working together to create teamwork

  6. Serious Risks in PE The most serious risks that may occur in a sport or PE activity is: • Paralysis-Quadrapalegia or Parapalegia • Death Having Injuries or Dying is a risk

  7. Eight Common Risks in PE • Wound -- Cuts, Blisters • Sprains – Knee Ligaments • Strains – Muscle Pull • Contusion – Bruise • Concussion – Head Injury • Fractures – Broken Bones • Inflammation – Infection • Dislocation • Miscellaneous – Finger In Eye

  8. Risky Unsupervised Activities • Driving or Riding in a Car • Swimming -- Drowning

  9. PE Guidelines -- Rules • Proper Footwear – Tennis Shoes Not Keds • Use Equipment Properly and Always with Teacher Permission • Avoid Heavy Meals Before Activity • Work at Your Own Fitness Level • No Horseplay, Tag, Shoving, Pushing, or Chasing • Wait for the Teacher – Never Start an Activity Without Teacher Permission • Report Injuries and Never Leave the Area without Permission • Drugs and Sports Do Not Mix • Play by the Rules – ex: Go Over a Hurdle the Correct Direction! • Survey the Area – If Something isn’t Set Up Properly or If You See a Hazard Let the Teacher Know!

  10. Facility-no gum or food, pick up after yourself Others-be courteous, use supportive language, be helpful Fun!!! How to make PE Self-Dress appropriately, Give 110 percent , Positive Attitude Equiptment-use appropriatly, help put away
