Using Addresses on MVA Registration Files to QC and Update Addresses for Building Footprints Apollo Teng & Carol Bernard Montgomery County Maryland DTS – GIS March 18, 2008
Acronyms & Terms • MVA vehicle registrations • MDP property points • M-NCPPC GIS master addresses • MCG DTS GIS bldg_ps • Northrop Grumman CAD
61 GIS Data Layers for E-911 • Centerlines – 42,314 • Building Footprints – 297,790 • Hydrants – 30,643 • PS Facilities • Schools • Hospitals • 55 other data layers
Building Footprints • Graphic Shapes • House Numbers (or ranges) • Hyper Links for ‘Preplans’
Accurate Counts of Registered Vehicles are objective criteria for certain highway related revenue sharing
There is time lag between occupancies of new homes and MD property DB. No individual premise addresses are available for these new lots.
Clines geocoded MVA address points gather along the street segments; these addresses help populate the building footprints
MD Property Points provide addresses for single family homes. Only one MDP address exists for the 10-unit parcel.
14 MVA addresses (in the list) should provide addresses for the 10 units in this multi-unit development consisting of two buildings
Whereas there is only one address point in the MDP Property Points DB, the goecoded MVA address points provided addresses for all 11 units in this multi-unit development.
Whereas M-NCPPC’s Master Address DB currently provides only one address for this multi-unit development, geocoded MVA address points provided addresses for all 17 units.
The next 4 slides, demonstrate in light blue, each step in addressing buildings that have only one address. This building is currently addressed by one represented MDP point.
Using MVA registrant addresses, in blue, (those not used are represented as green squares) to provide the blue outlined building with addresses.
Dividing one building, represented in blue, into multiple buildings.
The finished product, represents a once singular building with only one address (provided by MDP points), now divided into multiple buildings with individual addresses, acquired from the MVA registrants (points represented in blue).
QC helped by MVA points • MVA points are extremely helpful in correcting multi-unit buildings by adding singular addresses, which are not provided in all cases, by MNCPPC master addresses or MDP points. • They also provide current addresses for recently built buildings that do not show up on databases like MNCPPC master addresses or MDP point. • In order to provide the most current premise number labels on buildings for MoCo public safety, MVA is another key reference layer to complete incomplete building addresses.
