How to Make a Pie Chart to show Religious and Ethnic Breakdown of a Country
Step 1: Open Excel. In A1 type in Religion. In B1 type in Percent Practicing.
Step 2: In the column labeled Religion. List all of the religions that are practiced in your country (if any are under 5% add them together and label them other)
Step 3: In the column labeled Percent Practicing type in the percentage (no percent sign, only the number) that practice that religion. Remember, you need to add up all religions that are under 5% and put them in the Other category.
Step 4: Highlight all cells that contain information (DO NOT HIGHLIGHT EMPTY CELLS) and click on the chart wizard button.
Step 5: Choose Pie Chart from the list. You can then choose either of the six types of pie charts available. You can choose any of these forms.
Step 6: When you have chosen which chart, click next twice. At this dialogue box you change the title of your pie chart. Name it “Religion Breakdown of (Name of your country)”
Step 7: Click on the Data Labels tab. Select Category Name and Percentage. Then click Next.
Step 9: Select the chart by clicking on it. Then, go to Edit => Copy.
Step 12: Make sure to name it something appropriate and save it as a JPEG.
Step 13: Insert the JPEG into your wikispace. • You use this same process for doing the Pie Chart for ethnicities. • The change is when you are setting up excel. Your two headings will be Ethnicity and Percent. • You will put the names of the different ethnicities in your country and the percent practicing. • When it comes time to title your pie chart, title it Ethnic Breakdown of (Your country).
