  2. Global Dimension in Engineering Education Global Dimension in Engineering Education Outline of session • Introductionto GDEE • Goals and expected results • The consortium of partners • GDEE outputs • Training courses and materials • Case studies • European Awards for best practice • What happens next

  3. Global Dimension in Engineering Education GDEE Goals • GOAL • To increase the awareness, critical understanding, and attitudinal values of students in technical universities related to Global Dimension issues and their relationship with technology • Specific Objectives • To improve the competences of academic staff in order to introduce GD as cross-cutting issue in the curricula of technical universities • To create a network of academics for promoting the integration of SHD into technology studies • To facilitate the connection between theoretical knowledge (lecturers and students from universities) with practice (through NGOs)

  4. Global Dimension in Engineering Education The Consortium • Five universities from Spain, Italy and UK ... • ... Together with four NGOs

  5. Global Dimension in Engineering Education Training Courses and Materials • A. The global engineer • Course 1 Making the case for a critical global engineer • Course 2 Key elements for addressing the GD of engineering • Course 3 The Global Engineer in Sustainable Human Development • B. Supervising BS/MS thesis with fieldwork • Course 4 Supervising engineering students • Course 5 Knowing the context and partners • Course 6 Knowing International Cooperation • C. Integrating GDE into teaching and research • Course 7 Integrating GDE into Academia • Course 8 Integrating GDE into Teaching: Theory and Practice • Course 9 Integrating GDE into Research

  6. Global Dimension in Engineering Education Training materials and teaching resources • The training materials are an Open Educational Resource (OER). • Downloadable in as a pdf, html or e-pub file for tablet readers • Modular design, each session includes a chapter, activity and quiz • Provided there is attribution to the source, users can adapt, add to, revise and republish the text and different versions
