Network Perspectives on Intracellular Transport Dynamics

Explore the impact of traffic jams in biological cell networks on intracellular transport, crucial for cell function and health. Investigate molecular motor behavior at network intersections through experiments and numerical models. Are you familiar with Matlab or C++? 1. Traffic jam in biological cellular networks Efficient transport of cargo is of vital importance in biological cells and to all living organisms. The break down of intracellular transport is associated with various diseases. We study dynamic arrest of molecular motors moving along networks in biological cells both expermimentally and numerically. At intersections in the network motors start to aggreagate, forming biological traffic jams. Molecular motors • In this Bachelor project we take the network point of view on intracellular transport problems. • Using a simple numerical model we aim to study the importance of the network topology. • Direct comparison with experiments can be made. Experiments showing the network (blue) and traffic jams (red) (Experience with Matlab or C++ is a plus ) • Contact : Daniël Miedema, d.m.miedema@uva.nl, Dmitry Denisov, d.denisov@uva.nl • Peter Schall, ps@peterschall.de In collaboration with AMOLF and ITFA.
