At Hawkshead Hill we are celebrating and journeying together in God’s Creation. - making the link between our Christian Faith and ‘living lightly’, with each other and with our environment.
An Eco Congregation is an award. • It recognises that a church is trying to live more in keeping with the full Christian message. We are seeking to honour God, respect our environment and support communities: locally and globally.
b) Working to make our building and grounds more eco friendly and accessible
Many Chapel members have made eco friendly changes in their homes and lifestyles
17 Christians from Hungary help us rebuild: (New insulated floor & roof)
Rebuilding our toilets and making them wheelchair accessible Then Now
We have new eco friendly boilers for chapel & manse and use ‘green electricity’
Our new Upper Room for those in need of a quiet space in a Christian environment
‘Sanctuary and haven of peace for people and wildlife’: Youth initiative
Our garden is rich in natural beauty & biodiversity (see our nature diary) ‘The whole site is currently being sensitively managed with wildlife in mind’ Cumbria Wildlife Trust Survey, July 2008
We belong to the Quiet Garden Trust: A Christian Ministry of Hospitality and Prayer
Our Poustinia: a once derelict pig sty has been ‘recycled’ as a place for contemplation, retreat & prayer
Our community celebrate with us our Chapel 300th Anniversary (2009)
Chapel & local community celebrate harvest - juicing our apples (2010)
We welcome passers by to enjoy our chapel, garden & Fairtrade drinks
Us at Churches Together Stand at Hawkshead Show: Sharing Jesus with our Community. An opportunity to make a miniature garden, rest, reflect and pray
