Aerobic Respiration • Oxygen is used to produce ATP • Occurs in mitochondria • C6H12O6 + O2 CO2 + H2O + 36ATP energy

Anaerobic Respiration • Oxygen is NOT used to make energy • Only 2 ATP produced • Fermentation • 2 Types:
1. Alcohol Fermentation • Occurs in yeast and bacteria • Important to the brewing and baking industries • C6H12O6 ethyl alcohol + CO2 + 2 ATP
2. Lactic Acid Fermentation • Occurs in animals (muscle cells) • Can lead to muscle fatigue • C6H12O6 lactic acid + 2 ATP
