  4. Succumb (v): to give in; to yield to a superior force. Use with “to”

  5. Vice versa (adv): opposite or in reverse order from the way something was originally stated.

  6. Turbulent (adj): showing disturbance, disorder; in a state of agitation • Adv: turbulently • N: turbulence

  7. Avid (adj): showing great enthusiasm for • Adv: avidly • N: avidness

  8. Gaunt (adj): extremely thin; haggard and drawn; bleak and desolate • Adv: gauntly • N: gauntness

  9. Active voice: when the subject of a clause is performing the action. • I made a mistake. • Passive voice: when the subject of a clause is being acted upon. • Mistakes were made.
