Outline of the Evening • Parents & guardians receive scores of their students. • What is the purpose of the NWEA? • What does this score mean? • What does this score mean for the prediction of my child’s success on the End of Course Assessment (ECA)? • Where can I seek help for my child to improve his/her scores before next time? • When is the next assessment?

  3. What is the NWEA, and what purpose does it serve? • NWEA =Northwest Evaluation Association • Individualized tests that work to find a consistent pattern with a student. • Every test after the student’s initial test will begin at the level where the student left off. • This test is given three times a year (January and April) as well as now.

  4. What is the NWEA, and what purpose does it serve? Measures Growth Individualizes Instruction Predicts ECA Success Scores are not reported to the state or federal offices. This is strictly to help teachers individualize instruction and aid students in their own growth.

  5. What does the score mean that you see? • The score you see is a RiT score, a Lexile score and a %. • The following charts will be a chance to see what the AVERAGE score is for a student in a particular grade level at a particular time of year

  11. Where can I seek help for my child’s improvement? • After school tutoring and study tables (Every Tuesday- Thursday, 2:45- 3:45) 2. Lexile.com 3. Practice workbooks 4. In the back there are handouts on what your child knows and needs to work on based on RiT score. Use these as words to find games, etc. online. 5. collegeboard.com

What if my child scored high, what should I do? • Lexile.com • Collegeboard.com- Practice the PSAT. • ACT.com • In the back there are handouts on what your child knows and needs to work on based on RiT score. Use these as words to find games, etc. online. • After school tutoring and study tables could be used to prepare for the SAT, ACT or work on school work.

  13. Next Assessments • For Algebra I students, Acuity testing will be held in early November (then January and April). • For NWEA, testing will be held in early January and April.

  14. Next Assessments • For the ECA, 10th graders will take the English 10 assessment beginning April 30th . • Algebra I ECA is early December for those who have already taken the test and not passed. Otherwise, those currently enrolled in Algebra I will take the test beginning May 7th.
