  2. Duties Although the job may involve more than below, a designer will not only be involved in the design process but even the production process at some levels of the line. Duties will most likely include: • Researching relevant and current design trends • Sketching garment ideas • Selecting colors and fabric for the garment • Supervising garment construction • Finalizing and styling the finished product

  3. Education Those looking for a career in Fashion Design should obtain a two to four year college degree (trade or traditional) in merchandising or design, although not absolutely necessary.

Abilities & Personal Qualities • keen eye for esthetics: color, beauty, balance, proportion, details • creativity and style • originality • sketching abilities • interpersonal and communications skills • problem-solving skills • presentation and sales abilities • team player attitude • ability to work well under pressure • strong business sense

  5. Salary Fashion design salaries range anywhere from 30,000 annual to 120,000+ annual. Salary is based on locations, level of experience, and descriptive job title.

  7. Availability • Depending on level and type of designer, they can work anywhere from 8-15 hours a day. • A work week may not be typical for them. Depending on showings, tailoring's, shows, etc. they could work all seven days or a few days at longer hours.
