The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in partnership with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) will be responsible for implementing the three strategies within Priority 1. Infrastructure Development Professional Development and Training, and Technical Assistance
DESE and DHSS will be expected to implement these strategies using a comprehensive, statewide approach over the 5-year period of performance. • While activities are expected to be implemented statewide, 7 Priority Local Educational Agencies (PLEA’s) have been selected to prioritize our work. • All schools within the PLEA’s will be inclusive of this work.
Evaluation and Performance Measurement Plan • Throughout the five year project period, CDC will work individually and collectively with DESE and DHSS to answer the evaluation questions based on the program logic model and the strategies in the Priority 1 area. • The outcomes reflect the performance measures DESE will be responsible for. • Existing surveillance systems will be reported by CDC. • School Health Profiles (Profiles) • Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)
Work in Progress • MO is 1 of 11 states to represent the Professional Development for Healthy Schools Advisory Board (PD4HS) • CDC Healthy Schools Academy (State team of 4) – February 13 - 15, 2019 (NGO’S: Alliance for a Healthier Generation, the National Association of School Nurses, SHAPE America, and Springboard to Active Schools) Priority Tracks: Physical Education & Physical Activity; Nutrition; Chronic Disease Management; Out-of-School Time • CDC Healthy Schools Online Physical Education Learning Pilot (17 educators) • CDC Healthy Schools Professional Development (State team of 5) - May 1– 3, 2019 Topics: Engagement (parent, administrator, community, and student), Mental Health, Social Emotional Learning, and Health Equity • Trainings: In-Person and on-line (CDC’s tools and practices)
