Communication Individuals • Who will you text/call when you are at home? At work? • Do you have a paper list of family and emergency contact information? Families • Do you have a family communication plan? • Alaska contacts and out of state contacts • Paper list of family phone numbers Providers • Does the facility have an emergency communications plan? • Paper copy of contact information
Communication- Social Media • Facebook • Twitter • Apps • Nixle
Before: Resident • “To Go Bags” with necessities • Prescriptions/Medications • Family/guardian contact information • Name tags for residents who are non-verbal, confused • ID, Medicaid/insurance numbers, VA, Native Corp Card
Before: Family • Do you have a family plan? Does it include your pets? • Do you have a meeting place in town and out of town? • Cell charger with you, small flash light • Out of state contact-everyone calls them • Cash in small bills • To Go kit in car, gas tank filled • Important papers • ID, bank information, legal papers, insurance
Before: Staff • Personal family plan for staff • Who will check on your kids? Parents? Bring them to the facility? • What about your pets? • Cell charger or extra battery, small flash light • Cash in small bills • To go kit in car/office • Important papers for all people in your care • ID, bank information, legal papers, insurance
Before: Facility • Do direct care staff know there is an emergency preparedness plan? • What do you do for annual training? Who participates? • Do you participate in community training? • Do you have enough emergency supplies? Generator? Alternate heat? • How will you communicate • With EOC • With staff • Family members • Public
During the Earthquake During • Remind everyone to “Duck and Cover” • Remind everyone to not to leave facility Immediately After • Designate a leader: checking to make sure everyone is okay • Turn off the gas and water • Do not light matches/smoke • Only call 911 for medical emergency
After: Shelter In Place • Place Help/OK sign in window or on door • Do you have an alternate heat source? Generator? • Trauma: strong emotions, confusion, unexpected behaviors, excitement • Emergency Kit: Enough food, water, medications, medical supplies • How will you know what is going on? • How will you communicate with others? • Group home staff: Do you have enough staff? How will get relieve staff you?
After: Evacuate • What is your alternate site A and site B? • How do you plan to transport everyone? • BringDurable Medical Equipment, communication devices • Bring needed supplies (depends, medications, clothing, records) • Track the location of residents and on-duty staff • Shelters-How do I find one? Do staff need to stay?
