  3. Who gets Fundations? Fundations Student Population Prevention (Tier 1) Fundations instruction is delivered to ALL STUDENTS in the GENERAL EDUCATION classroom as a phonics and spelling supplement or the word study block to the core literacy program. Early Intervention (Tier 2) Fundations instruction is delivered to AT-RISK STUDENTS in need of STRATEGIC INTERVENTION and is conducted in a small group setting by the classroom teacher and/or push-in or pull-out interventionist.

  6. Phonological Awareness Phonological awareness is an awareness that sentences are made up of words, that words can be pulled apart into syllables, and that syllables we made up of separate speech sounds or phonemes.

Why Handwriting? • Handwriting and spelling difficulties in later grades affect the composition quality and amount that children are willing to write. • Both skills are directly taught and reinforced so that students get a foundation for writing. • Handwriting is closely linked to sound-symbol knowledge. • All skills are taught using kinesthetic and tactile memory. • Students systematically learn punctuation, capitalization, and proofreading skills.
