Collagen Glue Set The Collagen Glue Set contain four different collagen glues. The set is especially useful for exploring the function, strength and behavior of different glues in grounds and painting mediums. Animal glues vary in strength, but rabbit skin glue usually offers the highest strength, viscosity and elasticity. True rabbit skin glue tends to gel at lower temperatures, making it easier to use in gesso applications. Otherwise, glue made from bovine collagen are comparable.
Rabbit Skin Glue This is a high grade glue made in the U.S. of pure animal collagen. It is a fine mesh granular glue that is easy to dissolve in water ideal for preparing sizing for canvas or panels, use in chalk or gesso grounds and as a medium in distemper painting.
Technical Gelatin This is a technical grade of gelatin made in the U.S. It is a fine mesh granular gelatin that is easy to dissolve in water. The technical grade means that it is the lightest in color and most translucsent grade available. This makes it ideal for use in gilding. Gelatin is preferred by many professional gilders over hide glue, because it can take a super burnish easier than hide glue when mixed with gilder's clay or gesso.
Hydrogel 50ml Hydrogel is a clear gel that thickens the consistency of watercolor, allowing better control, adding texture and gloss. Mix it with any water-based paint or apply it pure with a spatula on the surface of paper or absorbent ground prior to painting. Hydrogel dries slowly, reduces the flow of color, and remains water soluble.
Clove Oil Clove oil is a colorless or pale yellow oil derived from the clove tree cultivated in the Moluccas or Spice Islands, Madagascar, Zanzibar, and the Philippines. The principle component of clove oil is eugenol. It is very slightly soluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. It has a spicy aroma and the taste of cloves. It is principally used in perfumes, flavorings, essential oils and dentistry.
