The Basics • Mutual Benefit Group was founded by Robert Livingston Patterson. • Mutual Benefit Group, formally known as Swigart Associates, was founded over 100 years ago. • Mutual Benefit Group was founded as a two-man operation, but now employs over 200 people. • Mutual Benefit Group is an insurance company providing insurance coverage for homes, automobiles, and businesses.

  4. History The place we all know as Mutual Benefit Group was not always that; it was formally known as Swigart Associates. Although Mutual Benefit was founded by Robert Livingston Patterson, Swigart Associates was originally founded by W. Emmert Swigart in 1907. W. Emmert Swigart was a well-known business man, and philanthropist. He was also a graduate of Juniata College.

  6. History Cont. Today the company is a multiline property casualty insurance group with five member companies offering insurance policies covering autos, homes, and businesses.

  8. Current Locations Mutual Benefit Group has a presence in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Yet, it issues insurance to all 50 states in the United States.
