This study examines the noise exposure levels during ambulance transport of heart patients in North Jutland and its effects on the staff. The aim is to identify any noise exposure exceeding national occupational regulations and investigate the hearing of paramedics. Preliminary results show significant findings in the MECU Odense. Potential perspectives for mitigating noise exposure are discussed. Special thanks to the supervisors and funding organizations.

National occupational regulative • Average exposure of 85 dB(A) during an 8 hour workday correlates to: • 88 dB(A) in 4 hours • 91 dB(A) in 2 hours • 94 dB(A) in 1 hours • 97 dB(A) in 30 minutes • 100 dB(A) in 15 minutes
Purpose • Identify any noise exposure exceeding the National Occupational Regulations • Joint venture between National Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) and Regional Mobile Emergency Care Units in (MECU) Odense, Aarhus and Kolding • Secondly: an investigation of paramedics hearing • Hypothesis?
Method • 25 MECU Physicians, 25 HEMS Physicians and 25 HEMS pilots • 25 In-hospital controls • 50 Paramedics
Results • 200 call outs with the MECU in Odense, Aarhus and Kolding (400 data files) • 3 call outs with the HEMS • 70 files analysed • Mixed effects regression with STATA IC 14
