What is it? • Image capture tool • Create 5-minute narration videos • Share projects instantly on your blog, Facebook, Twitter and email • FREE
Why is it valuable to your classroom? • Comment on homework • Explain directions to an assignment • Narrate a story • Share pictures and videos with parents • Easy to use – students can also use it
Downside of Jing • Can’t change shape or thickness of arrows and boxes • Can only record up to five minutes • Can only save as a .png and .swf • Can’t edit videos • Need a microphone and headset for videos • School may not allow the download
How do you create a screen capture? • Download Jing. • Have your computer on the screen to be captured. • Click on the Capture tool on the sun (Jing menu). • Click and drag the box to cover the section to be captured. • Click Capture button. • Optional: Edit your capture in the free version of Snagit or Camtasia.
How do you create a video? • Make sure you have your microphone ready. • Have your computer on the screen that you will be using for your video. • Click on the Capture tool on the sun (Jing menu). • Click and drag over the section needed for video. • Click on the video button. • Record video (press the stop button when done). • Edit in Camtasia or share your link via Screencast. You will have to create a username and password for Screencast.
