  3. What is Mooting? Mock court room scenario The competition has a problem (like a hypo!) with two points each team needs to argue. Written submission: An outline of your arguments that you give to the judge and opposing team prior to your oral presentation Involves research and planning your arguments Oral submission: Two students present the arguments to the judges in court Judges can interject and ask questions at any time

  4. General Information There will be one problemthat will be used throughout the competition. This allows for a reduced time commitment, and aims to build confidence and help refine mooting skills. The problem will be released 72 hours before the first moot. Written submissions are due to us and your opponent 24 hours before each moot. Grandfinal🡪 there will be some additional facts added to the problem in order to create an extra challenge for the finalists!

  5. Why a Women’s Moot? A Women’s Moot is a competition for open to all female and female identifying law students. The Women’s Moot started in 2015, in response to a gender imbalance in the number of female barristers practising in Victoria. The central aims of the competition are: To develop public speaking skills and confidence, which are necessary for all career paths. To foster supportive friendships and networks amongst female and female identifying law students. To provide participants with detailed and meaningful feedback that can be implemented each week of competition. To revise key legal concepts in the area of contract law.

  6. Structure of the competition The competition is based on contract law. Teams must have a minimum of two people, max of three Two will act as barristers, one will act as instructing solicitor. It is useful to rotate these positions to maximise your exposure to researching and presenting legal arguments. Rounds: Three round robins → Weeks 2, 4 and 6 Quarter finals → Week 8 Semi-finals → Week 9 Grand final → Thursday 16 October (Week 11) Judges are students for all rounds - except grand final where they are lawyers from Allens! Dress code: Business appropriate dress or shirt with slacks or skirt

  7. Moot Schedule Competition for the round robins will be held on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Competition in the later rounds will be held on Wednesday nights. Dates can be found on the MULSS website underhttp://mulss.com/competitions/womens_moot and also in the guidebook. Teams have the option of stating preference night on sign up sheet → subject to availability. Please go over the dates and ensure you can make all moots.

How to Register Registrations open tomorrow at 7.30pm (27/07) Link to registration found here: http://mulss.com/competitions/womens_moot One team member registers for the whole team and they become the contact person for your team, meaning the problem and submissions will ONLY be sent to that person. Info you need: Team name Full name Email address - please ensure you double check Preference night Outcomes of registration will be released this Sunday (29/07)

Communications and Further Information If you don’t have a team but would like to compete, email us at womensmoot@mulss.com and we will see if we can put you in contact with others looking for a team. Once your team is confirmed, we will invite you to the Facebook group.
