Using ProjectWise Navigator in the Civil Environment Presented by Chuck Lawson, PE Civil Product Engineering
Introducing ProjectWise Navigator • ProjectWise Navigator is a desktop application that enables you to open a design file to review or mark up data in the file • Access to “Engineering Content” data stored from native products such as InRoads / GEOPAK / MX, etc. in the “Item Browser” • Perform detailed clash analysis and interference review before moving to construction • Interact and walk through intelligent DGN and DWG models • Work seamlessly with ProjectWise
ProjectWise Navigator Typical User • ProjectWise Navigator has many uses throughout the design and construction phases • Peer reviews by Engineers • QA / QC reviews • Constructability reviews by the Resident Engineer • Surveyors • Clients • etc. • The intuitive interface requires no prior experience to CADD or Design Application software.
ProjectWise Navigator File Naming • When opening a DGN file in ProjectWise Navigator the DGN file will be copied to a new file name as follows: • Original file name = name.dgn • New file name = name.overlay.dgn • This new “overlay” DGN file is empty in content and references in the original file automatically.
ProjectWise Navigator Functionality • This new “Overlay” file allows the reviewer full access to many of MicroStation’s basic commands • Drawing lines, arcs, shapes, cells, text, etc. • Visualization and rendering • View controls • Animation • Measuring • Manipulation • Printing / PDF publication • File and raster referencing • Design History • Geographic Coordination
ProjectWise Navigator Functionality • In addition to many of the basic MicroStation’s commands, an entire set of review and production tools are included • Project Explorer • Item Browser • Clash Detection • Item Sets • Markup / Drawing Tools • I-Model Support • Schedule Simulation • Animation • Visualization
ProjectWise Navigator Modes • There are two modes of operation within ProjectWise Navigator • Review Mode • Markup Mode
ProjectWise Navigator Review Mode • The Review Mode • Similar look and feel to MicroStation including many of the native tools such as… • Measuring Distances • Drawing – Note only to elements placed by the reviewer • Moving – Note only to elements placed by the reviewer • Rendering, Material Assignments, and Visualization • Animation • Clash Detection • Schedule Simulation • Native Integration with ProjectWise
ProjectWise Navigator Review Mode • The Review Mode Demo
ProjectWise Navigator Markup Mode • The Markup Mode • Free format environment to place notes • Tracking abilities • Dates • Assignee(s) • Status • Prioritization • Description • General comments
ProjectWise Navigator Markup Mode • Tracking Markup Status
ProjectWise Navigator Markup Mode Mode • The Markup Mode Demo
ProjectWise Navigator Clip Volumes • Dynamic Sections • Drag an adjustable clipping plane anywhere • View all depths of the model • Invaluable tool for reviews in Design and Construction
ProjectWise Navigator Clash Detection • Detection of conflicts in a 3D world • User selectable parameters • Compare items by level symbologies • All details readily available in the clash detection dialog • Clash navigator • Direct link to markups
ProjectWise Navigator Item Sets • Group Items by specific properties • Pipe diameters • Material Types • Intelligent Engineer Content analysis • etc
ProjectWise Navigator Item Sets • Extensive View Controls • Show Members • Model Transparency • Highlight / Zoom • Isolate • Add to Selection Set
ProjectWise Navigator Project Explorer • Project Explorer allows the user complete control over how and what is viewed. • Model • Views • Links
ProjectWise Navigator Project Explorer • Project Explorer allows the user complete control over how and what is viewed. • The Model tab provides the ability to turn on and off individual components of the model along with setting the level of transparency.
ProjectWise Navigator Project Explorer • Project Explorer allows the user complete control over how and what is viewed. • The Views tab provides the ability to save and recall Saved Views.
ProjectWise Navigator Project Explorer • Project Explorer allows the user complete control over how and what is viewed. • The Links tab provides the ability to create links to other files. These links can also be assigned directly to elements.
