  2. b. Responses to Jesus • He is demon-possessed -3:22 • He is mad – 3:21 cf. John7:5 • Great fear – 4:41 – Disciples - 5:7,8 – Demons • Dismissal – 6:1-6 • Faith – 5:21-43

  3. What faith looks like 1. The humility of faith – 5:22 2. The desperation of faith – 5:23,25,26 3. The object of faith – JESUS 4. Public declaration of faith – 5:30-34 5. Perseverance of faith – 5:35,36 6. With Jesus the impossible can happen -5:38-42 7. Faith can be weak – Mk.9:23,24; Mt.17:20

  4. 2. The calling of Christians - 3:14 God’s call to his people:- • Abraham – to God & his blessings Gen 12:1,2 • to be a blessing to all nations Gen 12:3 b. Israel – rescued and made God’s people - to be a light to the Gentiles

  5. c. The Apostles (and us) • Called to be with Jesus – the apostles were unique (Eph. 2:20), but we have amazing riches in Christ (Eph. 1:3) • Called to spread the Gospel of Jesus • like a farmer with good seed – 4:3,14 • like a shining light – 4:21,22 • like a generous neighbour – 4:24

  6. Spreading the Good News • Jesus – 1:14,15, 38, 39; 2:2; 6:6 etc • The apostles – 6:12; Acts • Believers – 5:19,20; John 4:28,29 We are witnesses. The Holy Spirit is the lawyer – John 15:26,27; 16:8-11 • There are different responses – 4:1-20 • The seed will grow - unseen growth – 4:26-29 - amazing growth – 4:30-32

  7. The Challenge – Jesus’s call to you • Not-yet believer • Explore the Good News of Jesus • Repent & believe 2. Christian a. Stay close to Jesus b. Be a faithful witness • Pray for… • Invite to… • Explore with… (‘Each one teach one’) • Share what God has done for you
