  2. Plot Since their mother’s death, Carter and Sadie Kane have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father Julius Kane. One night, Dr. Kane brings them together for a "research experiment" at a British museum, where he hopes to make things “right” for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to run for their lives. Soon, Sadie and Carter find out that the gods of Egypt are waking, and the worst of them, Set, has his sights on them. To stop him, they go on a dangerous journey across the world on a quest that brings them closer to the truth about their family, and links them to a secret order that has existed since the time of Ancient Egypt.

  4. Carter Kane When his mother died, Carter traveled the world with his father. Since he goes every where with his father, Carter knows a lot about Ancient Egypt. When their father released Set, he also released Horus, Carters guardian.

  5. Sadie Kane Twelve-year-old Sadie Kane was separated from her brother after their mother’s death. She only got to see Carter and her father once a year because they were always on the road. So while her brother and father traveled the world. She was raised in London by her Grandma and Grandpa. Her protector is Isis.

  6. Dr. Julius Kane Dr. Julius Kane is one of the greatest Egyptologists of modern times, specializing in Egyptian magic. He has written numerous books, and travels the world doing research and giving lectures.

  7. Ruby Kane Ruby was a British anthropologist who specialized in ancient DNA. She died in a mysterious accident when the children were younger, but their Julius has never told them the truth about the way she died.

  8. Amos Kane Amos has kept his distance from Carter and Sadie, but not because he wanted to. When something happens, Uncle Amos must take in Carter & Sadie and it will be up to him to explain the truth, and introduce them to the dangerous heritage of the Kane family.

  9. My Rating • I rate this book 8 out of a possible 10 because while Rick Riordan combines the perfect amount of humor, suspense, action and danger to the story, he also lacks to tell the reader about the Gods specific title (Ex. Ra- God of the sun)
