Setting the Stage • IHSA is a governing organization for over 760 member high schools • 600,000 students enrolled in high schools • Over 309,000 boys and girls participate in high school sports alone. • For every 10 students playing on a team, 6 are boys, 4 are girls. • Most popular boys sports based on teams entered in state series • Most popular girls sports based on teams entered in state series • IHSA licenses and trains18,000 officials. • Conducts state tournament for 37 athletic and non-athletic programs which amounts to 72 state championships. • Our state is made up of rural, urban and suburban schools who all have an equal stake in the association.

The Mapsaka “Rubber Band Trick” • Assignments are made using a map program. Has been referred to as the “rubber band” trick. • Best way to understand how assignments are made is to look at the map.
