Moon Phases. Remember there are 4 main phases of Illumination: New Moon = BLACK 1 st Quarter = ½ lit Full Moon = fully illuminated 3 rd Quarter = ½ lit 2 descriptive phases: Waxing and Waning Crescent (Waxing crescent, waning crescent) Gibbous (Waxing gibbous, waning gibbous)

Waning GibbousLosing illumination but still more than ½ lit The moon is fading when it’s waning.
