Where? When? WHEN CAN FOULS OCCUR? A foul may only occur: • on the field of play • while the ball is in play • against an opponent (or opposing team) • by a player Against whom? By whom? One last requirement – what is the action? This is the “What?”
DEFINITIONS – Applied to 1st Seven Careless\ adj 1: unconcerned, indifferent 2: not showing care Reckless\ adj 1: lacking caution : rash syn: headlong, hasty Excessive force \ adj + noun 1.more strength than is necessary to accomplish the purpose 2: violence

DIRECT FREE KICK FOULS – ALL 10 REMEMBER First 7 DFKs are fouls only if, in the opinion of the referee, they were performed carelessly, recklessly, or with excessive force The second 3 DFKs are fouls no matter HOW they were performed #10

FOULS REVIEW • What are the 3 other DFK fouls? • Handle ball, spit, hold • Which DFK foul is always a red card? • Spit • Which other DFK fouls are usually a card of some color? • Kick, strike • What is the restart for committing a DFK foul outside the penalty area? • Direct free kick (duh!)
FOULS REVIEW • What if a player commits a DFK foul inside the team’s own penalty area? • Penalty kick • What are the 4 IFK infractions only the goalkeeper can commit within his/her own penalty area? • Handle second time, handle after kick by teammate, handle after throw-in by teammate, hold too long
FOULS REVIEW • What are the 4 other IFK offenses in Law 12? • Dangerous play, impede, interfere with GK’s release of ball, misconduct • What is the restart for any IFK offense? • Indirect free kick (duh again!)
FOULS REVIEW • What is the restart if a player punches a teammate on the field while the ball is in play? • Indirect free kick to opponents • Shouldn’t that be punished in some more serious way? • Yes, but for that we have to move to the second part of Law 12 -- Misconduct
