History- The piest dynasty 966-1370 • 966: Duke Meszko I became Poland’s first recorded leader • 1100: after Meszko’s death, Boleslaw Kryzwousty divides Poland among his sons causing rivalry • 1320: the Polish state is reunified • 1333-1370: Political and cultural unity is achieved under rule of Kazimierz III
The Jagiellian Dynasty 1382-1572 and the royal republic 1572-1795 • Jadwiga marries Duke Jagiello, forming an alliance with Lithuania • Jagiello rules from 1386-1434 • 1596: the capital is moved to Warsaw • 1700s: Russia, Prussia and Austria split Poland • 1890s: approximately 4 million people emigrate to the US
World War I 1914-18 • Poland becomes the main fighting ground. • There was no official Polish state and there was no Polish army. • Poles were forced into the Russian, German, and Austrian armies and forced to fight against one another. • 1918: Poland becomes independent as WWI comes to an end. • 1997: National Assembly adopts a new Constitution

Lake Zarnowieckie • Great for windsurfers • A lot of night life • One of the best known beaches in Poland
Drawa national Park • Visiting the park can cost anywhere from 10-24 Zloty a day • Known for being a great place to camp, fish, hike • There are many beautiful sights through out all the seasons
