Our goals today: • Review history of pen pal project • Learn a bit about Malawi and our pen pals • Learn about Maloto- an organization that helps feed, educate and empower the students of Malawi • Looking Forward- What YOU can do to help • Kicking off our Read-a-thon fundraiser to support our friends in Malawi

  4. About Malawi:Where is it?

  5. Lilongwe • Malawi covers an area smaller in area than the state of Pennsylvania. • The capital of the country is Lilongwe. • Our penpals live in Mzuzu in northern Malawi. Mzuzu

  8. The national holiday of the country is on 6th July. ( Independence day of Malawi). This is the day they gained their independence from Great Britain in 1964. President Joyce Banda

  13. Looking Forward- Anna Msowoya-Keys began an organization called Maloto (meaning Dreams) to help Feed, Educate and Empower the children, the people of Malawi. She also built a school our penpals dream about attending one day soon. We look forward for them.

  14. What can YOU do? The Read-a-thon! • Speak with friends and family about the Read-a-thon information going home. • Ask for support and READ, READ, READ! April 15- May 3 How many books will you read? • Fill out Book Slips and turn into your teacher each Friday. Watch them fill up the halls! • Collect donations and turn into teacher by May 6 • Spare books? Turn into office and we’ll mail them!
