  4. Objective • Acquiring the knowledge of basic HRM concepts and techniques • Developing a critical familiarity with HRM applications in real life • Improving teamwork skills

  5. Outcomes-theoretical • Environmental factors and organizational characteristics • Employee recruitment, selection, and separation • Performance appraisals, workforce training, and career development • Compensation, rewarding, and benefits • Relations with employees and unions

  8. Assessment • Midterm exam 1 30% • Midterm exam 2 30% • Project initial report 5% • Project presentation 5% • Project final report 15% • Group participation 10% • Individual participation 10% • Total 105% • GRADES ARE FINAL

  9. Exams • Essay-type questions • First midterm: the first eight (April 15) • Second midterm: the second eight (May 20) • No final exam and thus no re-sit exam

  10. Attendance and participation • The students who miss 8 (eight) sessions will fail automatically • Come prepared • Listen to the lecture and contribute to the following discussion • Bring your book to the class • Have a look at the end-of-chapter questions • Share personal experiences • Be critical

  11. Project • An organization’s HR function or department with an HR professional • 4 (four) students at most • Talk with real people, documentary analysis not acceptable • Initial report-2 pages (April 24 in class) • Presentation (May 22) • Final report-15 pages (May 23) • See the project guide for the details at www.ba.metu.edu.tr/user/ctopal

  13. Civility • Be in class on time • Turn cellular phones off or on the silent mode • Turn laptops off except for class purposes • Avoid side conversations • Use impersonal language • See the instructor if you need special arrangements
