What is HCI? • Home Computing Initiative (HCI) is auser-friendly scheme made possible by the Government 1999 tax exemption on loaned computers • With built-in tax breaks, the scheme enables employers to provide cost-effective access to the latest IT for their employees to use at home - at a fraction of the retail price
How does HCI work? • Employer buys or leases PCs in bulk • Employer loans PC to employee (over 3 yrs) • £2500 benefit limit over 5 years (£500/year) • PCs and all accessories that rely on a PC, qualify • Employee repays by salary sacrifice (Gross) • Employee saves by paying less PAYE and National Insurance (& No VAT) • Employer saves by paying less employer National Insurance • (12.8% of salary sacrifice) • Employer can reclaim VAT (17.5%) and pass this benefit onto employee
