10000 Home Phase I Study • Alachua County, University of Florida PREC and ICBE feasibility study of a 10,000 home weatherization initiative. • Phase I • Establish criteria for choosing homes • Develop key terms and definitions • Design a draft work-flow diagram 10000 Home Weatherization Intiative: July 16, 2009
10000 Home Phase I Study • From the April 30, 2009 Declaration of Intent: The goal is to provide low-cost weatherization and energy efficiency upgrades to at least 10,000 homes within the Alachua County area over the next five years. The program focus will be on weatherizinglow-income housing, alleviating poverty and enhancing social equity. Home occupants or owners will not pay for this service. Homes will be weatherized to reduce energy consumption by up to a third and will include education and awareness training for the occupant for low cost improvements. This work can be accomplished at little to no cost to the Initiative with an average cost estimated to be around $2,750 per home. 10000 Home Weatherization Intiative: July 16, 2009

Energy Efficient • Term used to describe how efficiently an existing home uses energy, a quantity of heat or work. • Edited: Refers to the ability of a home to provide desired services (ie. Low-Cost Weatherization • The process of improving the energy-efficiency of existing homes via the most cost-effective and energy-impacting measures, especially those homes of low-income ownership. • Edited: The process of improving the building envelope of a structure so as to increase energy-efficiency. 10000 Home Weatherization Intiative: July 16, 2009
