W.E.B. DuBois(1868 - 1963) • Born in Massachusetts after slavery had ended • First African American to receive his Ph.D. from Harvard • Wanted immediate equality between black and white people • Wanted classical higher education for “top 10%” of African Americans • Helped found the NAACP
