Prepare for the ABET Visit • Visit will take place October 29, 2007 • Lunch time (12-1:30) • Possible meeting before lunch (11-12) with ABET TE Program Evaluator • ABET Questions and Answers are available online http://www.te.utdallas.edu/constituents-activities.html • Next IAB Meeting (October 26, 2007) • IAB contribution to assessing TE Program Outcomes • IAB feedback to improve the Program • How feedback was implemented by Program (SDP)
Senior Design Projects • Preexisting structure • Two consecutive semesters (Fall+Spring) • Proposal submitted by group of students (early Fall) • Proposal reviewed by instructors • Feedback given to students • Students carry out project under instructor’s supervision • Senior Design Day: presentation to and evaluation provided by IAB members (end of Semester)
SDP – IAB Driven Changes • Defined mechanism to have company provide list of preferred topics • Defined mechanism to have company provide feedback on students’ proposals • Defined mechanism to have company to Champion some projects: Champion from company provides students’ supervision

Focus for the TE Program One or a few well defined focus areas will strengthen the TE Program, and help the Program grow consistently with the UTD President’s plan • Build a large telecom testbed facility at UTD • Establish a valuable Industrial Affiliate Program to Companies • Attract more students (BS, MS, PhD) • Guide future faculty hires
