Outcomes for the day • To have discussed TNE themes and issues. • Identify themes / issues for the SIG to focus on. • Start to identify what should go into the Good Practice Guide on TNE. • Discuss how to take the work of the SIG forwards.

Introductions • Dr Gavin Bunting Senior Lecturer, University of Wales • Stakeholder engagement • Policy development, advice and advocacy • SIG TNE – very relevant to my work in UW, opportunity to share experiences and discuss issues relevant to TNE.
Key aims of the SIG • To facilitate engagement across the sector on TNE issues. • To examine how to ensure an equitable student experience no matter where programmes are delivered. • Identify and develop mechanisms /support to ensure high quality student learning experiences.
Community of practice • Up until now Universities appear to be developing their own way in TNE. • Opportunities for practitioners to share experiences • Communication mechanisms: JISCmail / meetings / workshops / webpage.
Good practice guide • It is envisaged that the guide will provide clarity on staff and student issues and highlight /provide resources HEIs can use to develop the capacity of staff delivering overseas programmes, thus adding to the existing internationalisation information on the HEA website.
Policy Advice • It is expected that the knowledge built up by the SIG will enable it to provide advice on the development of relevant policy and guidance at a strategic level across the UK HE sector.
Initial meetings • 2 meetings in March • Plus a Skype meeting

Themes / issues • What are the key challenges for ensuring an equitable learning experience? • Thinking about: teaching, learning, assessment, student experience, resources, staff training, quality assurance procedures……. • The role of language, culture and communication. • Quality assurance issues. • Management & operation of TNE partnerships.
Themes / issues • What is an equitable experience? • How to build the capacity of staff (UK or local) delivering TNE programmes. • How do we ensure teaching excellence? • What are the perceptions of a UK award internationally? • Do perceptions match what is actually delivered? • What direction is TNE heading in?

Good practice guide • What themes / issues should be addressed in the guide. • What resources would help address the theme / issue? • Case studies, checklist, podcast, video clips, lesson plans, learning resources……. • What can feasibly be produced by July 2013? • Can aspects of the issue / theme be addressed? • What are the key challenges for ensuring an equitable learning experience? • How do we ensure teaching excellence?
Working groups • Offers to convene a working group. • Who should be involved in the working groups? • Can they operate virtually or will some face to face meetings be needed? • What are the immediate first steps? • Can questions be posted on JISCMail to gather evidence?
