PHISICAL DESCRIPTION • They are mammals, They have a long, pointed muzzle and a long, bushy, ringed tail. They range in size from 33 to 69 cm long plus a tail just as long as the body; they weigh from 3 to 7 kg. Males are larger than females.
What do they eat? • They eat both meat and plants. They eat small animals like lizards, insects, rodents, snails, and birds, fruit and nuts. They often eat while hanging upside down from a tree branch. Coati find food using their good sense of smell.
Where do they live? They live in small groups called bands. They live in tropical rainforests, grasslands, and brushy areas of South America and southern North America.
REPRODUCTION • The female coati has 2 to 6 young after being pregnant for 2 and a half months.
