OnStar (Private ATIS example from Sweeney) • OnStar currently has about 80% market share, via the GM brands as well as Lexus, Acura, Audi and Subaru • OnStar’s subscriber base is scaling exponentially • The OnStar business grew 250% from 2000 to 2001 • OnStar as of Dec. 31, 2001 has about 2 million subscribers • OnStar is enrolling more than 5,000 new subscribers a day • OnStar has had more than 10 million interactions with customers in all U.S. counties and all provinces of Canada • 200,000 routing calls per month • 15,000 door unlocks/month • 14,250 roadside dispatches/month • 300 air-bag deployments/month • 375 stolen vehicles located/month • Aggressive marketing – Batman TV ads (helps ITS awareness) • Business model is primarily reselling cellular telephone airtime Kan Chen
