  10. Sales Skills To be a good sales person you must: 1. Greet the customer when they arrive – say hello, ask them if you can help them find a certain kind of plant. (don’t hover around them however, if they don’t want your help, move on) Example: Salesperson: Hi, can I help you find a certain plant? Customer: Yes, I’m looking for peppers.(take them to the peppers) or Customer: No thanks, I’m just looking. Salesperson: Great, let me know if you need any help.

  11. 2. Be concerned about their needs – listen to them, try to understand their needs or questions, show that you really CARE! 3. Help them with their plant selection – lead them to plant they want, don’t just point, help them get baskets down, etc. 4. Have a good ATTITUDE! – be helpful and positive, smile, the most important thing a customer will notice about you is your attitude.

  12. Dealing with an unhappy customer 1. Be polite. 2. Listen to their concerns. 3. If you cannot resolve the problem, tell the customer they will need to talk to one of the teachers.

  13. Sales Techniques Your primary goal as a salesperson is serve the customer. By serving the customer correctly, we sell MORE PLANTS! There is nothing wrong with trying to sell more plants to a customer – as long as you do it correctly. Don’t try to push plants on people – use a more skilled sales approach.

  14. Examples: If a customer is going to purchase an hanging basket, point out another nice one and say, “this one would look great along with that one.” If a customer is going to purchase a few 4” plants you could say, “those would really look good in groups of 5 in your flower bed.” Explain that plants look best in the garden in odd numbered groups for a real color impact.

  15. Receipt Writer Mrs. Weeks is in charge of the receipt writers Count each kind of plant a customer has selected Record the number of each kind of plant on the receipt Sign your name You do not need to add up any totals on the receipts Tear out the white and yellow receipts and hand them to the customer. The pink receipt stays in the receipt book. Send the customer to a cashier Write VOID on any receipts that are canceledLeave them in your receipt book
