When to go for Further Study? • Preferably after polytechnic education or National Service. • Provide you know what degree and which university? • Else after a few years of working experience. • To determine a career path and then to obtain a relevant degree. • Best before 30 years of age.
What Degree? • Depend on a person's life/personal goals, career plan, interests and/or passion. • Listen to your heart: A person is more likely to succeed in a career which he/she is passionate about. • Skills-based verses knowledge based degree - You decide!.
Which University? • Local Universities. (NUS; NTU; SMU) or UniSIM • Well known internationally. • Excellent learning environment and training facilities. • Great saving on accommodation and tuition fees. • Gain cross-culture learning experience with foreign students. • Opportunities to be sent to a reputable university overseas for global exposure. • Require a very good GPA diploma and GCE ‘O’ level results. • The ‘X’ Factors!.
Which University? • Foreign Universities in Singapore. (private institutions e.g. SIM; MDIS; Auston; Kaplan; SMa) • Another opportunity. • Save on accommodation but NOT tuition fees • Reputation of degree and university is important. • As far as the Ministry of Education (MOE) is concerned, it does not have a list of accredited overseas universities. There is also no central authority in Singapore that assesses or grants recognition for degrees obtained from overseas universities. • The reason given is that the employer should be the one deciding whether a degree-holder has the qualities desired for the job and the qualification most relevant to his needs. • To obtain better standing in education in Singapore – Do a Master degree (MSc; MA; MBA) in one of the local universities after a few years of working experience
Which University? • Foreign Universities in Overseas.(UK; US; Australia; New Zealand; Germany etc..) • The most expensive (> SGD 100,000) • Offer many opportunities • Overseas exposure • Totally new living experience • With different life style • Experience different culture • Enjoy independency • Is it worth the investment? • Better to leave it for Master degree!
How to apply ? • Contact the university admission office for more details. • ASK: • for exemption (if any), • the academic term of study. • The nature of the degree program being offered (i.e. whether is it by distance learning or full/part time study), • The tuition fee, accommodation, and exchange program (if any?), • Additional cost incurs, etc,,. • Visa application (if study in overseas)??. • Get a First Class Honours degree.
Final Advice ? • Getting a degree is not the end but just a beginning of a person's career life. • Remember you are your BEST School and BEST teacher!. • Once you get a job, it is your performance that counts. • Getting a degree, nonetheless, holds the key to many career paths and other job opportunities. • Don’t forget us (your friends; Lecturers and your schools) • Contribute yourself to the society!
