Write about how a misunderstanding caused a friendship to end. by Sathyajothi
Paragraph 1 (i) • Sindy was an attractive and outgoing girl. Everyone liked her and she was the envy of many. I had known her since secondary school days and we had gone on to work together in a sales firm. We were the best of friends and very soon I began to feel a sense of romantic attachment to her.
Paragraph 1 (ii) • It was pure joy to spend time together and she really began to mean a lot to me. She was a jovial person and treated everyone in a warm and uninhibited way. That became the source of our misunderstanding one fateful day.
Paragraph 2 (i) • One Tuesday evening, after a whole day at work, just as I was about to start my car engine, I saw Sindy with John at the bus-stop. John was my boss and he was, like Sindy, a very easy-going person and someone who could give a listening ear when one needed it. He was holding her palm and patting her shoulder. At that point, I could just feel my heart and my head raging with fire. I hated him.
Paragraph 2 (ii) • To make matters worse, her head was on his shoulder. As I sat behind the steering wheel of my black Subaru, obscenities came pouring out of my mouth. I felt shattered and extremely jealous. Then came my sinister plan. I very badly wanted to get back at who I thought was her new beau. I would set him up and get him into trouble with his wife. And that was exactly what I did.
Paragraph 3 (i) • I frantically searched through my trouser pocket and took out my wonderful Motorola V-razor. After scanning through its phone book, I dialed John’s residence and asked to speak to his spouse. Without missing out any information, I squarely told her the incident and described it with even more dramatic details.
Paragraph 3 (ii) • After that, I felt a sense of achievement and gave myself a pat on the back for doing such a clever thing. Having taken a last glance at them, I smiled wryly and zipped off in my convertible.
Paragraph 4 (i) • The next day, Sindy was early and was surrounded by a few of our colleagues at her desk. Her beautiful eyes were visibly sore and red. Puzzled by the scene, I went to Salmah, my secretary, to enquire what it was all about.
Paragraph 4 (ii) • “Don’t you know? Some freak called up John’s wife and told her that Sindy and her husband were having an affair. Apparently, the person did not know that John was comforting her because of the demise of her dear father. Poor Sindy. She is even more depressed now because of the trouble she has caused John.” Those words shook me really hard. What had I done?!
Paragraph 5 (i) • Just then, John came out of his room looking devastated. A sense of guilt pierced through me. I felt disgusted with my own actions. I had misconstrued something perfectly innocent and hurt two of my colleagues. It was my fault and I needed to confess it before it ate into me.
Paragraph 5 (ii) • I went straight to Sindy and told her that I was responsible for all the trouble. John forgave me despite everything but Sindy simply could not digest the truth.
Paragraph 6 • Because of that little misunderstanding, my longstanding relationship went down the drain. Everything was lost. I no longer worked at the firm because it just did not feel right to be there anymore. We no longer contacted each other. That day cost my friendship with her. I am still waiting for time to heal the wound. But will that happen? I do not think so. Not anymore.
