  9. Equipment Needed • Set top box capable of recieving IPTV streams • Reasonable internet connection • Service provider

  10. Voice Over Internet Protocol

  11. What is VoIP? • VoIP and IP Telephony are terms used to describe the same computer technology : Carrying phone calls over the Internet rather than over a telephone provider ( Telstra ). • When you are calling people who are not online but use a normal telephone, your VoIP provider has to transfer the call from the internet to a normal telephone line. (This is where costs will be involved)

  12. Advantages • Extremely reduced cost (Majority of people can save a minimum of 50% on calls plus the cost savings of the line rental) • Ability to conduct several VoIP conversations simultaneously over the same broadband connection. • Integration with other services such as audio conferencing, managing address books and video conversation.

  13. Disadvantages • Unlike landline services VoIP telephone systems require power so in the event of a blackout VoIP communication is not possible. • Emergency calls are not supported by most VoIP providers because emergency calls from traditional landline services can be traced but there is no way for the operator to trace your current location of a VoIP call.

  14. Required Equipment • A Broadband Internet Connection • A Hardware or Software based VoIP phone (A popular solution, is the Analog Phone Adapter which allows you to use your normal phone but also is connected to your broadband router and will route calls accordingly.) • An Australian VoIP Provider
