The new Research and Innovation bill • The R&D funding will increase by 450 million € during the period 2009-2012. • Increased appropriations for universities: 140 million € • Strategic research areas: 165 million € • Research founding agencies: 60 million • Research infrastructure: 15 million • Industrial research institutes: 20 million • Innovation package: 15 million • Abolition of higher education VAT: 30 million • European Spallation Source (ESS): 15 million • In addition, 270 million € will be invested in a research institute to serve the transport sector

Green Nano2008-2010– Nanotech development in the green sector Purpose of the program: • Facilitate commercialization of nanotechnology • Addressing a key societal concern – reduce negative environmental impact • Increase society-industry-academia interaction and involvement in nanotechnology • Legitimate nanotechnology by making the opportunities of nanotech concrete and visible Outline of the program: • Late phase nanotechnology innovations • Project teams with academic and industrial actors • 4 millions € in public funding during 3 years • Five projects so far funded with focus on solar cells, LEDs, nano composites & nano fibres from renewable sources and nano materials used in fuel cells

Transport Systems 2009 - 2012- Creating a sustainable and efficient transport system for economic growth and new markets Sustainable and efficient transport systems requires: • Technological development • Behavioral changes in travelling and planning of logistic patterns • Sound politically induced policies and economic measures of control supporting safe and sustainable solutions. • VINNOVA is active in supporting Swedish participation in the 7th Framework Program and ERANET Transport. • Sweden has the third lowest logistic costs in the world. The Competence Centre CTS has contributed to position Sweden as an important actor within the area of transport policy. The challenges within the transport area are huge and new markets for sustainable transport solutions will evolve.
