RecruitmentWriting “DOL friendly” ads • For tenure-track teaching positions only • Sample ad from ISFS • If you say it, DOL will hold you to it • Degree by start date • List all MQs & PQs • “Experience in _____” vs “expertise in _____”
RecruitmentPositions • Tenure-track, academic and research positions = options • Classified & professional faculty = hurdles • Work visas specific to position
Selection New NRA Review Process • Offer letter accepted and signed • Email candidate w/ I-9 form • If candidate needs assistance with securing US work authorization, request “NRA review” on OSU hiring system • ISFS initiates review, sends Questionnaire to finalist • Finalist returns questionnaire • Best visa type determined, ISFS completes review • Visa application sent to department & finalist
Selection Areas of Concern • Applicant Screening Summary (aka Applicant Disposition Worksheet) • May need a separate list of finalists • how the selected candidate was more qualified than each finalist • Keep complete search records • May need to prove that selected candidate met all MQs & PQs
SelectionQuestions from Finalists • Avoid discriminatory hiring practices • Refer candidates to ISFS for general information • Once offer letter is signed, ISFS can closely review visa options, information not shared with search chair or committee • If a candidate shares visa documents prior to offer, refer questions to OHR to verify work authorization
TheSuccessful Candidate • Here (in US) • Change of Status • Transfer • There (outside of US) • Consular Notification • When Can They Enter the US? In either case, start visa application process early
