  2. Introduction A healthy lifestyle requires developing daily habits that focus on attaining and maintaining a level of overall physical fitness. The health-related components of fitnesscontribute to the body’s total fitness. These components include: • cardiorespiratory endurance • body composition • flexibility • muscular endurance • muscular strength

  3. CardiorespiratoryEndurance The ability of the heart and lungs to deliver oxygen-rich blood to the body’s tissues during long periods of moderate-to-vigorous activities. • Measured by the three minute step test or the mile run

  4. MuscularStrength The most work muscles can do at any given time or the amount of force a muscle can exert. • Measured by arm incline press, leg press, or push ups.

  5. MuscularEndurance The ability of the muscles to perform physical tasks over a period of time without becoming fatigued (overly tired). • Measured by sit-ups or push-ups.

  6. Flexibility The ability to move the joints through a full range of motion. • Measured by sit and reach

  7. BodyComposition The relationship of body fat and fat free mass (muscle, bones, organs, etc) in the body. • Measured by bioelectrical impedance machine.

  8. RelatedVocabulary Fitness – The ability of the body to handle physical, mental, emotional, and social day-to-day challenges without feeling exhausted. Fatigue – Extreme tiredness of the body; to use up strength; to tire out or weaken. Bone Density – concentration of the bones’ tissue made up primarily of calcium. When bones lose density, they become fragile and break more easily.
