  2. Election of 1840 Major Changes Established the Triumph of populist Democratic styles of government. Because of a Major democratic swing in power, the people at that time claimed that there had been a rise in aristocracy Ex. Jefferson was a Dem. And he was an aristocrat Andrew Jackson was a slave owner, and racist The political parties began using Propaganda. These campaigns lead to a higher general appeal to the public, which then gave the people more involvement in politics.

  3. Triumph of the Donkeys From the elections of 1801-1840 all presidents were Democrats. These presidents were criticized for their aristocratic ways. Although they were aristocrats, these men appealed to the common people, so in other words this was “Politics for the People”.

  4. Spread of Democracy • After Jackson's misuse of power, the people furious and demanded more widespread power. • In the1840's after Jackson stepping down as president, politicians were forced to favor with the voting masses.  • Instead of the old divine right of kings, America was now bowing to the divine right of the people. 

  5. Major people • William Henry Harrison, and Martin Van Buren • These presidential candidates  were the first to begin the modern like presidential campaigns.
