  4. Lawnmower • During the summer holidays, your brother earns extra money mowing lawns. He mows 6 lawns an hour and has 21 lawns to mow. How long will ittake him? • What do we know? • He mows 6 lawns in an hour. • There are 21 lawns. • What do we need to find? • How long will it take to mow the 21 lawns? Fuller Computer Lab

  5. How do we do this Problem? • During the summer holidays, your brother earns extra money mowing lawns. He mows 6 lawns an hour and has 21 lawns to mow. How long will ittake him? • We know he does 6 in one hour, so.. • If we can find out how many 6’s there are, we will know how many hours there will be. Fuller Computer Lab

  6. How do we do this Problem? • During the summer holidays, your brother earns extra money mowing lawns. He mows 6 lawns an hour and has 21 lawns to mow. How long will ittake him? • To find how many 6’s there are, we can divide 21 by 6. Fuller Computer Lab

  7. Twin sisters are expensive. • You bought your twin sister Molli 3 gifts costing$24 each, and your other twin sister Mary 5 giftsat $18 each. How much money did you spend onMolli and Mary? • What do we know? • Molli got 3 gifts that cost $24 each. • Mary got 5 gifts that cost $18 each. • What do we need to find? • How much money did you spend in all?   8. ? What do we Do? • You bought your twin sister Molli 3 gifts costing $24 each and your other twin sister Mary 5 gifts at $18 each. How much money did you spend onMolli and Mary? • The clue…How much in all… When we read this, we know we usually add or multiply. • This is a two step problem, and we do both multiplication and addition.   9. ? What do we Do? • You bought your twin sister Molli 3 gifts costing $24 each and your other twin sister Mary 5 gifts at $18 each. How much money did you spend on Molli and Mary? • In this problem we multiply and add: • We multiply to find how much for each twin. • Then we add the totals for the two twins to get the grand total.   10. The Mean Problem. • The mean average of the following 4 math marks will become your report card mark: 97, 78, 84 and 86. What will your report card mark be? • What do we know? • The grades are 97. 78, 84, & 86. • The mean of these will be the report card grade. • What do we need to find? • What will be the report card grade?   11. The Mean Problem. • The mean average of the following 4 math marks will become your report card mark: 97, 78, 84 and 86. What will your report card mark be? • We must calculate the mean, so add all four marks, and divide the answer by four. Fuller Computer Lab
