Belize Field School - 2012 • Earn 9 university credits in 7 weeks in beautiful, tropical Belize! • May 1 – 20, morning classes at Douglas College (Mon-Thurs) • May 22- June 20, classes at Galen University, Belize • June 20 – 24, Caribbean Island Excursion – beaches, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, beach volleyball • The program focuses on the study of the cultural and physical landscapes of Latin America, Mayan archaeology, culture and history, conservation of regional landscapes, and current social, economic and environmental issues with an emphasis on Belize.

Courses • Geography 1190, Latin America – M. McPhee (3 credits) • Sociology 1155, Social Issues – S. Ashe (3 credits) • Anthropology 150, Mayan Prehistory – S. Gibbs, Galen University, Belize (3 credits). Transfers to Douglas College as a first year anthropology course. • All courses are university transfer courses
Highlights • Field trips to ancient Mayan sites in Belize • Rainforest - Jungle trips – Chiquibul National Forest and Cave, Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Reserve • Learn traditional Mayan medicine practices • Explore caves and Mayan artifacts • Snorkeling in coral reefs - Caribbean Sea • Students rave about the trip. Estimated Costs • Program Fees – $3000 approx. Includes: • all Belize accommodations for 5 weeks • weekday breakfasts and dinners • Galen University course tuition • all course related transportation in Belize • all entrance fees for excursions, • Belize student visa permit, travel medical insurance • Airfare – approx. $700 - 800 • Douglas College tuition and fees for 2 courses - $768 (based on Winter 2012 rates) • Textbooks - $150 • Additional meals & spending money $500- 1000 • Total: $5,500 (approx).
