(Could you tell what type of text it was? Why not? What clues might you have looked for - For a letter? A blog? An article?) - Topic? (What are they writing about?) ‘Sports stars are good role models for young people’Write an article for a magazine of your choice arguing for or against this view. Try to write two pages. You must: • Write two pages • Use techniques for your purpose. • Show you know who your audience is. • Show you know what type of text you are writing. • Paragraph (and use connectives) • Interesting words to show your opinion How many of these did the student meet? Groups A, B and C. On sugar paper. B: Using techniques • Agree on 3 persuasive techniques you feel confident with. • Re-write a section of their work using these techniques C: Paragraphs • Where should they have changed paragraph (mark //) • What connectives have they used? • What examples could they have used from real-life to support their arguments A: Using interesting vocabulary • Look at your vocabulary list. Remember the format was an article. So what did it need?! • In your groups, think of a short, catchy heading for the article. • You must show which side they are on in your title. • EXT: Use a persuasive technique e.g. rhetorical question, emotive word. Improving the writing paper Are sports stars good role models? You have two post-it notes. If you agree that sports stars are good role models, write an example of a person (and why) on your green post-it note. If you disagree, write an example of a bad role model as an example (and why) on your pink post-it note. Stick on the whiteboard.
