Where is Montana? The Flathead’s live in Montana. Montana is surrounded by Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota.
What type of shelter did the Flatheads have? • In cold winters, they lived in houses built into the ground. • In warmer weather, they • had houses made from • logs.
How did The Flatheads get food and other necessities? Hundreds of years ago Present Day • They were hunters and gatherers. • They traded furs for guns and knives. • Today they have a timber industry. • They also go to school to learn skills.
Chiefs and Elders of the Tribe The Chiefs and Elders are important to the Flathead tribe culture. The Chief is the head of the tribe. The Elders teach the history of their people by telling stories.
Today, the Flathead Tribe lives on the Flathead Reservation with the Kootenai Tribe.
