  2. Discuss these questions with the person sitting next to you… • When did you first learn to take notes? • Who taught you how to take notes? • In American universities, it is particularly important to take and keep track of your note. Why is this?

  3. Method 1: Cornell • Utilizes a 3-step process • Step #1: Take class notes. Record main ideas, supporting ideas, examples, etc. • Step #2: From your class notes, write down the KEY WORDS, KEY IDEAS, etc. • Step #3: Reflect, review and summarize

Helpful Symbols and Abbreviations • = equals/is equal to/is the same as • +/& and, more, plus • > more than, greater than • < less than —less, minus • → gives, causes, leads to, results in •  increase •  decrease • b/cbecause • w/ with or w/o without • No./# number • i.e. that is • e.g. for example • etc. Et cetera

  8. Remember… • Find a note taking system that works for you • Don’t write down everything • Be organized • Review, review, review
