Public Relations 158-Service Learning • The purpose of this course • To provide us with the knowledge to be able to practice public relations • Service learning we get the opportunity to directly apply the material we learn in class to the work that we do for clients. • Catholic Charities as our client • Alongside them we executed various public relations projects for the organization.
About Catholic Charities Catholic Charities is a non-profit social service agency Provides food & services for families all over the central valley. Houses a thrift store Helps clients get set up on various government aid & stay informed about services available.
Projects for Our Client • We worked alongside Executive Director Kelly Lilles who was a terrific professional example for us. With her we maintained constant communication regarding any updates, upcoming meetings, and projects. • Website Audit- • Audit for Catholic Charities • Liked the classic design of the website • navigation was easy to maneuver around. • Liked the pictures & organization provided • Overall the page was well managed and maintained.
Projects for Our Client • Social Media Content- • Created posts for Catholic Charities • Statistics about hunger in the world • Inspirational quotes • Work that Catholic Charities does for the community. • The idea is to inform the public about the organization, as well as keep the organization relevant in the public eye, to keep people talking.
Projects for Our Client • Public Service Announcement- • Most fun project to do. • Royalty Free Songs on Amazon, upbeat jingle. • We spent $.89 on our song. • Narrated by Kelly Lilliesour PSA was great because her voice is very clear and distinct.
Projects for Our Client • Video Advertisement- • One of the more challenging projects for us • Main equipment being our phones for shooting • Final Cut Pro • Kelly did the narrative • We incorporated video clips of the Catholic Charities building, thrift shop, and other photos • Royalty Free Song • Added life to video for cheap
Projects for Our Client • MCJ Canned Food Drive • TALK Strategic Promotion Solutions &Catholic Charities- Canned food drive within MCJ Departament • All Journalism emphases: Advertising, Public Relations, and Multimedia, Journalism, Broadcast etc. • The winners would have a coffee and donut breakfast. • All the cans would be donated to Catholic Charities.
Recommendations Many children in our surrounding neighborhoods are going to be missing out on Easter egg hunts, and seeing the Easter bunny. Catholic Charities should begin the tradition of a ham and eggs drive for the spring. It would be the same concept as the turkey drive, but with ham, as well as plastic and real eggs so that they children in the community can paint and hunt for eggs.
