Special Education Action TeamProfessional LearningLeaders: Liz Morrison, Beth Nesbit • This work team will identify the professional learning needs of all general and specials educators in Parkway related to teaching students with disabilities, participation in IEPs, instructional strategies, accommodations, and abilities awareness. • This team will propose a collaborative multi-year professional learning plan which is integrated with the PLC initiative, other Parkway professional learning structures, and the professional development plan and activities of the SSD.
Role of PLAT • Review the Professional Learning Needs Survey - for both Gen Educators and Special Educators (October PLAT) • Distribute Survey to Staff (October – November) • Review Survey Data and Provide Input (Invite a Special Educator from your school to join us at PLAT for discussion (November PLAT)) to Special Education Action regarding the three year development plan
Survey - Individual • Open up the survey • Individual – Read the Survey • What will we find out about professional learning needs as a result of the survey • What questions will not assist us in finding out about professional learning needs • Any questions that do not make sense
Survey - Table • Discuss – • What will we learn • What question(s) if any should be eliminated (why) • What needs to be added • Share with the group
Survey – Next Steps • Suggestions sent to the Special Ed Action Team • Survey sent to PLAT members to be sent to staff (cc Liz in the e-mail)

General Information • Goal 1 – 3 of the District Strategic Plan • Each item was included in the district strategic plan as indicated • Financial support comes from District Professional Learning Funds • Strategic Plan – Action steps from the District Strategic Plan are noted (Strategic Plan) • Goals 4 – 5 are the focus of PLAT
Professional LearningImprovement Plan • Read the Action Steps for Goal #4 and Goal #5 of the Professional Learning Improvement Plan • Put a (+) by any items on the list that you have heard about and a ( - ) by any items on the list that you have not heard about • Highlight the Action Steps that apply to your role as a PLAT representative
Focus on PLAT • At your table “star” the items that you all agree that PLAT is directly involved • Read each statement associated with PLAT • Individually jot down three questions you have about the items directly related to PLAT on a yellow post-it • Other questions – jot down on a different color post-it note • Group – sort and categorize questions • Share one important question with the group
