Rube Goldberg Project Mrs. Knicely
My Rube Goldberg machine • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhwNY6UXqkk
Step One • The marble that was resting before will travel down the tube which is an example of potential to kinetic energy
Step Two • The marble will then hit the dominos which are standing, causing them to knock into one another. This is an example of potential to kinetic energy.
Step Three • The dominos knock into one another which causes a sound energy.
SteP FOUR • The dominos push a marble which travels down a tube. This is an example of potential to kinetic energy
Step five • The marble travels down and hits a switch which turns on a fan. This is an example of potential to electrical energy.
Step Six • The fan turns on and blows into a “sail” or piece of paper which moves it across the table. This is an example of electrical to wind energy. Also an example of potential to kinetic energy.
Step Seven • The sail knocks into the dominos which causes them to knock over in a chain reaction. This is an example of potential to kinetic energy.
Step Eight • The dominos continue to fall down until they knock into a marble which is connected to a string that is attached to the light switch. This is an example of potential to kinetic as well as electrical to radiant energy.
Energy Forms • Kinetic Energy- Energy that is involved with movement • Potential Energy- energy that a piece of matter has because of its position or because of the arrangement of parts • Sound Energy-This type of energy is carried by the vibrations of matter. Sound travels as longitudinal waves. • Electrical Energy – This type of energy is the energy of moving electrical charges. • Wind Energy - Harnessing the power of wind and converting it to energy
Additional Work – Trading Cards • Must do five trading cards of five forms of energy that you did not use in your Rube Goldberg Machine • Must have a colored picture of that form of energy • Must also show a real world use for that form of energy
Additional work - mobile • Must do five trading cards of five forms of energy that you did not use in your Rube Goldberg Machine • Must have a colored picture of that form of energy • Must also show a real world use for that form of energy
Additional Work – News article • Must research three news articles or magazine articles that describe the use of three different forms of energy not used in your Rube Goldberg machine • Cut and put out on a poster board • Write a 1 paragraph (4-5 complete sentences) about each article and place under the article
